IPL Super Intense Pulsed Light treatment

The latest dimension in permanent hair reduction!

Shaving and waxing although effective is only temporary and will cause regular visits for treatment. We have the latest in permanent hair removal therapy now available at our salon - Super Intense Pulsed Light (SIPL) treatment.

How does SIPL remove unwanted hair?

The long term hair removal is achieved by targeting a beam of light of a specific wave length to heat the hair bulb and permanently disabling it. It is most effective in the Anagen phase (active growth phase) of the hair. At any given time about 85% of the body hair will be in Anagen and will have more melanin in the follicle making the therapy more effective. The effect on hair will be: Growth delay, Changed growth rate, Hair miniaturisation, Changed pigmentation and permanent hair reduction.

Is the treatment painful?

Each individual will have a different thresh hold toward pain stimuli. The majority of clients will describe the treatment the same as a flick of an elastic band. Some even feel that waxing is more painful than the SIPL treatment. No hair will be mechanically removed.

Is the procedure safe?

Yes the SIPL treatment is safe and you may experience slight reddening of treated areas for a couple of days.

Is one treatment enough?

No, hair removal will need on average 4 to 8 or even more treatments for the desired effect. This is because the hair on the body is all in various phases in the hair growth cycle. For Photo rejuvenation 4-6 treatments will be needed and there after about 2-8 treatments per year as the skin aging will continue. In general we recommend on average 4-6 weeks between treatments but with Acne you may need weekly treatments.

Do I need any special care before and after treatment?

Yes, you should not wax or have electrolysis or tweezing of the hair for at least 4-6 weeks before treatments. Try to avoid tanning or sun exposure before and after treatments. You will receive post treatment instructions and we recommend you use a post treatment soothing lotion. We recommend SPF 30 sunscreens after treatments.

Are there any contraindications for treatment?

Yes, we recommend you should not have the treatment if you are pregnant, are on medication e.g., Roaccutane (Need to be 12 months off the treatment), history of hypertrophy scar formation, active infection or immune suppression.
